|
|
hello.
i was moving my potted figs in for the season and noticed that one of them had started to send a root out of the pot ... it was about 1/2 inch in diameter and had many fine root hairs.
to get the pot to drain, i needed to remove the external root.
is it possible to propagate the tree from this root cutting? I placed it immediately in some potting soil and have keep it moist except for the little part that was attached to the parent tree, which is right at the soil surface.
if i keep this inside over the winter, watered and exposed to light will it sprout a new shoot? anything i can do to get it to sprout?
thanks,
-mef |

| This should work unless figs are difficult to propagate. |

This may help -> http://www.bonsaihunk.us/info/FigPropagate.html If it is a root *only*, then it will more likely just rot if it kept moist/too deep. Kind of chancey without having any hardened off parts to sprout new growth, but it just might work if I am understanding your doings correctly (?). Ficus does propagate VERY easily, so the odds are better than with many other species.
